December Executive Director’s Message

To all members of our extended FACT family:MarcPicSmall
A few thoughts for the closing month of 2016….

In this month of celebrations, family gatherings and holidays, we at FACT want to thank you for your support and partnership in 2016. Your contributions, whether they be through funding, donating items, or giving volunteer time enable us to continue to provide our clients and families the support and services they need.

You are the unique people who know how much value our services are to our clients and families. The senior staff and I have the pleasure of hearing from grateful clients and parents throughout the year, so during this month we will be sharing their thanks with YOU through emails and on our blog.

In light of the recent election and the emotions it has raised, I also wanted to share an interesting article from the Long Beach Business Journal by my friend and colleague Jeffrey Wilcox, the CEO of Third Sector Company. The article is titled: “Nonprofits: Now That The Trump Card Has Played” where Jeffrey talks about the impact of the election on nonprofits like FACT. As a teaser, I’ll share the final paragraph:

“If the first days following the election are any indication, the nonprofit sector holds the highest potential to demonstrate how uniting a divided nation can be accomplished. Reasonable people owe the sector our increased time, talents and treasures, now, more than ever, to get the job of tackling differences underway. Washington cannot reunite broken communities, only we can; and, that’s our trump card as a nation.” You can see the full article here .

As service providers (and caring others) we have long had to get used to change and rocky waters as we navigate the multiple, overlapping the sometimes contradictory changes in the areas of funding and services for developmentally disabled persons. The national political picture will be just one more hurdle we will surpass, as we all work together.

On behalf of our entire staff I want to send to all of you our wishes for the happiest and most nurturing of holidays and a wonderful New Year!

–Marc
