True Words from a GAP Parent

Martin, GAP Parent

Our children, although they are young adults, have a long way to go to be more independent (By the way, this is also true of the college students I teach). The GAP is devoted to giving them those skills that contribute to their becoming adults who can make their own way (of course, with help). Every day they are at GAP they are learning and reinforcing what they need for the longer run. We owe it to them to be sure they show up as often as possible. During the summer is a terrific time to focus on their needs, and while they might be taking a vacation from school and classes, it is not the time to take a vacation from the support and training that the program provides. As Linda points out, there are good reasons financially for our children to attend GAP. But what is even more important, and what we owe our children, is that skill development and training for their adult lives.
