The Essence of Adolescent Life

By Linda Andron-Ostrow, Executive Director

Time is always an elusive experience. How about this year we focus on a mind frame that allows us to be in the present, living a fulfilling life?

Another successful year is behind us and another year full of opportunity is already at our finger tips. We are resolved to do something new this year before it is gone too. At whatever time we are in life, it is the essence of a fulfilling life that we seek for both ourselves and those we love. I’d like to draw from Dr. Daniel Siegel’s brand new book, Brainstorm, to look into how the essence of adolescence can frame a positive life experience for all of us. Dr. Siegel talks about:

Emotional spark composes the feelings that can be intense and potentially challenging, not just for ourselves but those around us. Social engagement is the sometimes significant influence our peers, family, and other people have on our internal emotions and decisions. Novelty seeking brings upon new opportunities for enriching growth, either through our successes or perceived failures, we always have the chance to reflect positively on new experiences. Creative explorations allow us to be open, resourceful, and present during the sometimes turbulent journey of life.

On February 6, we are honored to have Dr. Dan Siegel join us for Navigating the Teenage Mind, a conference where we will learn science, practical applications, and most importantly the significance of the adolescent period for the brain. At the conference, our learning will be expanded with workshops on bullying, spirituality, developing independence, mindfulness, rules of sexuality and the media landscape.

If you or your family member is a client of the Regional Center, this conference  is vendored. Please take advantage of this unique opportunity. For professionals, this is an exciting opportunity to learn while acquiring CEUs.

We hope to see you there.
